Walking Wildlife Tours
What is the difference between a guided hike and a guided walking
tour? Admittedly, this is highly subjective, but we like to think of
our guided walking tours as tours that anyone who can walk can
do. The emphasis is on viewing wildlife, rather than covering a set
distance. All our walking guides are trained naturalists who love to
share their knowledge. Come with us to enjoy the Central Coast in a
highly rewarding way.
Our Private Exclusive Tour Guarantee
All of our guided walking day trips are guaranteed to be private
exclusive affairs. Once we meet you at the start of the tour, we are
yours for the rest of the trip. Our guides will cater to your
personal preferences and can change the tour (within reason) to fit
your needs. No one else will be on the tour. Enjoy our personalized
service!

We had such a great time today. Our guide Dave should host a
wildlife show on Animal Planet. He knew so much about all the birds
and otters and seals. His intimate understanding of Morro Bay's
ecosystem really made our tour so much more than we were
expecting... I am telling everyone about Central Coast Outdoors!

WALKING: Pacific Coast Wildlife Tour (Family Friendly) |
 |
The coast of northern San Luis Obispo County is one of the most
wildlife rich areas of all coastal California. From enormous
northern elephant seals to endangered western snowy plovers, the
range of animals that can be seen along this short stretch of
Pacific coast is truly remarkable.
We begin with a short guided walk
at the Piedras Blancas elephant seal colony north of San
Simeon. Walking a trail just above the haul out beaches, we'll get
close enough to these charismatic giants that binoculars are not
even necessary. Winter is the birthing and breeding season at
Piedras Blancas, but there are seals on the beaches all year
round. Our next stop is the Estero Bluffs, just north of the sleepy
beach town of Cayucos.

Here we'll explore a beautiful stretch of
pristine bluffs and a series of secret beaches with our best
opportunities for seeing the endangered western snowy plover and sea
otters while curious harbor seals watch us from the rocky surf. Our
final stop is Morro Bay State Park, where we enjoy a late picnic
lunch at a viewpoint near the Natural History Museum before doing
a guided walk along the bay, visiting a heron
preserve. You'll have a chance to see resident and migratory
waterfowl, including flocks of shorebirds, grebes, cormorants,
terns, heron and egrets as well as sea otters. At the end of the
day, you'll marvel at the diversity and complexity of life you've
seen and learned about in such a short time.
