MULTI-SPORT: Morro Bay Kayak and Hike (Family Friendly)

Featuring miles of trails and hundreds of species of birds as well as numerous marine mammals, Morro Bay and environs is a nature lover's paradise. On this tour you'll combine the pleasure of paddling on the bay with hiking trails that offer stunning vistas. An easy morning of paddling visits an oyster farm, harbor seals, a heron rookery, the bird haven of Grassy Island, and we have chances to see otters. After taking all this wildlife in, we beach our kayaks on a secluded part of the outer sandspit for a fun dunes hike to a hidden Chumash shell midden. A short walk past the midden, we come to the Pacific Ocean and unparalleled views up and down miles of isolated beach.

Central Coast Outdoors Morro Bay

After a delicious gourmet picnic lunch on the dunes, we head back to the mainland for a guided hike. Usually we hike a relatively easy and little known trail north of Cayucos that takes in beaches and bluffs, as well as more opportunities to see otters and seals. When the wildflowers are in bloom, we may do a different trail just off the bay that is a little hillier, but which showcases an extravagant display of native wildflowers and affords a view of the bay that is hard to beat. This is a great day trip for families!

MULTI-SPORT: North Coast Bike and Hike (Family Friendly)

Central Coast Outdoors North Coast Bike and Hike Trip

The North Coast of San Luis Obispo County is a stunningly spectacular stretch of the California Pacific Coast that abounds in bicycling, hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities. On this multi-sport bike and hike tour, you'll combine bicycling down the coast past an elephant seal colony with a gem of a hike through diverse eco-systems in San Simeon State Park. In the morning, we shuttle north to Ragged Point and ride down the coastal highway, stopping to visit a colony of odd looking elephant seals along the way. For families (or others) interested in a shorter ride that minimizes riding with narrow shoulders, we can do a shortened 12 mile version of the bike route that still visits the elephant seals. Following a picnic lunch at a cozy seaside park, we hike a delightful loop trail in San Simeon State Park that takes in wetlands, pine forests, vernal pools and coastal vistas.

Our Private Exclusive Tour Guarantee (Bike and Hike)

All of our biking and hiking trips are guaranteed to be private exclusive affairs (on kayak tours you may be with other booking parties). Once we meet you at the start of the tour, we are yours for the rest of the trip. Our guides will cater to your personal preferences and can change the tour (within reason) to fit your needs. No one else will be on the tour. Our minimum booking size is two people and our prices vary according to your group size. Treat yourself to our personalized service!

What is included in the price of your bike and hike tours?

Our bike and hike tours are fully guided tours that include everything to make your time with us as pleasant and care free as possible. Included in the price of the tour are:

  1. Bicycle and helmet.
  2. Guide and route support.
  3. Printed directions for the ride and usually a map as well.
  4. Snacks and water.
  5. All necessary shuttles during the tour.
  6. Gourmet picnic lunch.
  7. Guided hike in the afternoon
  8. Pick-up from nearby hotel (pick-ups at hotels not near the trip can be arranged for an extra fee - contact us for details).
How do you determine bicycle difficulty ratings?

It is challenging to come up with a bicycle difficulty rating system that is relevant for everyone. A very fit cyclist might consider our "Moderately Strenuous" trips to not be hard at all, while someone who exercises infrequently or is not used to cycling might find a "Moderately Easy" tour to be quite a challenge. Our bicycle tour rating system is based on the approximate fitness level of a casual recreational cyclist who rides at least once per week and rides over fifteen miles on a regular basis. If you ride less or more than this, please adjust your expectations of the tour accordingly. To flesh out the rather subjective difficulty rating, we also include the distance for each tour and a terrain description. We are also available by phone to discuss the difficulty of any of our tours.

What bicycles do you provide with your tours?

We feature Norco Performance Bikes. You have the choice of a hybrid bike with upright handlebars or a road bike with drop (racing style) handlebars. Both bikes are designed for efficient travel on the road and have Shimano components. Both styles have a map case attached to the handlebars and the hybrids also have a rear rack bag to store gear. We stock a variety of frame sizes to fit your needs. Please supply your desired bike type, height and pedal preference when you reserve a trip so we can pick the appropriate bike for you.

Will the guide ride with us?

Although your guide would love to ride with you on the bike portion of the tour, with group sizes of six and under we assign one guide for the tour and they are typically needed to drive the support vehicle with lunch and other supplies. Group sizes over six typically have two guides assigned with one driving the van and the other on bike.

Bike and Kayak Tours

We currently don't have one multisport tour that combines kayaking and biking but hope to have one soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to kayak and bike with us in the same day, we encourage you to sign up for any of our half day bicycling tours followed by either our Sunset Paddle or Dinner on the Dunes kayak trips. If you have a larger group and want to kayak and bike in one continuous tour, please contact us or fill out a custom trip questionnaire and we'll put together a custom trip proposal for you.
